And so we ended up working at the reception of Crank Backpackers (www.crankbackpackers.co.nz) in Rotorua which has a reputation of tourism capital of the North Island. After a week of training and warming up we had a happy time dealing with huge crowds of tourist who came to New Zealand for the Rugby World cup. Since October we started to search for additional jobs to speed up a process of money saving for next part of our trip. I ended up working night shifts at the local supermarket (the Warehouse) and Charlyn got a part time job at the cute restaurant. November and December was filled with 40 to 50 hours workweeks but somehow we could still enjoy ourselves and have a great time with some great people around us. Also as part of working for the hostel we had an access to loads of fun activities like rafting, bungee, culture performances, geothermal parks, spas etc … all of that free of charge as it was part of our training. So almost every week we had some extra thing to look forward to. To me having one of the highest indoor climbing walls in the building was another reason to be happy! Overall 4 months went faster than we expected (actually too fast) and when the time came to leave we wished we could stay one or 2 months longer.
Thank you CRANK, thanks Tim and Nic for taking us onboard :)
